frequently asked questions
How does the pricing work?
For invitations/announcements, the design charge is $30. Then the price of printing depends on your quantity (click here).
You can choose to purchase the design listing only, and I will send the printable files for you to print however you please. Or you can add printing to your purchase and I will handle it all turn-key.
What is a design charge?
The design charge covers the time I spend with your design. While other invitation sites just pop in your photo and information and then leave it as it falls, I spend time on it. I'll make sure the text isn't on your face, that your photo is cropped like you want, that the text fits your design, that no mistakes are made, and basically making it custom for you.
What is the turnaround time?
Once you have made your purchase and sent all relevant information, you will receive a proof within 24 hours (M-F only). You will either respond with changes or approval. Once approved, you will receive the prints within a week, usually less.
Can the text be a different color/shifted/decreased/etc.?
Yes. The great part about working directly with a designer is that I do take the time to personalize your piece. I use my best judgment to make sure the design complements your photo, and then I'll still adjust what you feel necessary.
Can I add another photo (or two) to the design?
Yes, usually. Depending on the design, I can usually add a photo or two. I will let you know if the design you like doesn't accommodate extra photos. Generally, three or less is best in order to keep it from looking crowded.
Can you edit my photo?
Not really. I am of the firm belief that you should hire photographers for photography and designers for designing. I concede that am not experienced enough in the realm of photo-editing, so I recommend having edits done by your photographer to ensure highest print quality.
Will you tell me if my photo doesn't work well with a design?
Yep, and I'll recommend necessary changes. I'll also let you know if your photo is too low-res to print clearly.
Why is the bride's name or initial before the groom's?
For stationery etiquette, I adhere to Crane & Co's Blue Book of Stationery. According to it, the bride's name should always be listed first. This is because when read together as a couple "Jane and John Doe," the man's first should never be separated from his last. This is an old-fashioned rule that I stick to, but I am happy to reverse the order if you prefer.
Are you able to print gold or silver?
At this time, I do not have foil (the shiny gold or silver) capabilities. Foiling requires a totally different set of machines and for custom metal plates of the design to be made. This is why foil invitations are generally much more expensive.
Can you just make it gold or silver colored?
Yes, but that's yellow-brown or gray, and it never ever looks quite like you meant it to.
Can I show you something I like from another designer?
You can show me, but for copyright (and morality) reasons, please do not expect me to copy it. I can work with "the feel" of the design and give you something with a similar feel, but your final product won't look anything like what you sent. If you really like someone else's design so much that you want to copy it, you should purchase it from that designer.
What is a round of edits? Do I only get two edits?
A round of edits means you compile all the edits you want and give them to me to make at one time. That's a round. This helps me keep design costs down by not opening the file and sending proofs every time we change one thing. Two rounds means you can make all the changes you want, twice.
Can I have a digital proof prior to purchase?
No. Due to the customized nature of my work, a purchase must be made before a proof is sent. I take time with my designs, and I want to make sure they're perfect before I send them. Because of this, I have to prioritize clients who have paid.
What if I buy a design and decide I like a different one?
Within reason, I am happy to swap designs for you at no charge. I want to make sure you love the final product!
